High School Summer Internship Program - Venture Analysts

Ideal Candidates: Who is the program for?
Our highly coveted and highly competitive summer internship program is open to high school students that are rising juniors, rising seniors, and rising college freshmen generally between the ages of 16 and 18. Applicants must be US-based and authorized to work in the US; overseas applicants are not considered. 1435 Capital Management considers students with an entrepreneurial mindset, strong analytic skills, and strong research and writing skills. We are looking for students that are interested in exploring more about the world of finance, venture capital, investment banking, and learning more about the innovation ecosystem.
Structure, Timing, and Location
The internship program is a 10-week, full time summer program and is 100% in-person. Unfortunately, we are unable to provide housing and transportation accommodations to our offices due to compliance and liability concerns. All applicants and accepted individuals must make travel arrangements to our offices on their own. Our internship program takes place at our Skillman (Princeton) offices located within the Montgomery Innovation Hub.
Role and Responsibilities
Venture Analyst interns work alongside the investment team and get involved in several core VC activities. Typical responsibilities include:
- Investment analysis: researching startups, markets, competitive landscapes, and basic financial projections
- Portfolio monitoring: collecting performance data on portfolio companies, preparing reports, and updates for the investment team
- Deal sourcing: helping identify new opportunities via events, networks, demo days, venture summits, and angel networks
- Market Research: market research and trend tracking across sectors
- Product Validation: Including product testing, meeting entrepreneurs, and participating in internal meetings where deals and strategy are discussed
We are generally looking for students with strong written and verbal communication skills, strong analytical skills, and proficiency with Google Workspace suite tools such as Gmail, Google Docs, Google Sheets, and Google Slides.
We are looking for individuals that are self-starters, individuals who can work independently, show initiative, can work well in a group environment, and are ever curious; open minded; and have an entrepreneurial mindset.
Application Process
Applications are submitted online (via the Careers page). Messaging us for information or a link to the application is discouraged. Our official application page can be found strictly via our Careers page and via our third-party applicant tracking system, Dover.
Without commenting on the full process, all applications must include a video pursuant to the prompt on the application page, a one-page resume, and responses to the application. Do not use AI tools such as ChatGPT. Keep it original and real. We are looking for honest submissions and honest individuals. Do not speed up your application video.
1435 Capital periodically hosts in-person Open House and “Inside the Internship” events at our offices where prospective students and parents can hear directly from current or past interns.
Our application process varies yearly. The application process for this year will vary from previous years. It is unwise to rely solely on past internship applications and videos as a basis for your application.
Our applications are reviewed on a rolling basis. While we do have a hard cut-off date, do not delay in applying. We will be accepting qualified candidates as they apply.

In the past, students have gone to Stanford University, University of Pennsylvania (Wharton), Harvard College, Yale University, Dartmouth College, New York University, University of Southern California, Northeastern University, University of Michigan, Georgia Tech, Northwestern University, University of North Carolina, University of Virginia, Babson College, University of Illinois, Emory College, Cornell University, and Carnegie Mellon University.
We are also known to offer full-time positions to graduating high school seniors from our Venture Analyst program.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Do you offer a remote internship?
During COVID-19, we offered a remote program and we had limited in-person days. However, we feel that a remote internship program detracts from real world experiences and real world learnings. In addition, it is much more difficult to enforce regulatory and compliance issues from a program that is governed remotely.
Why do I have to be US based?
There are a few factors that go into this and it largely boils down to Compliance. Venture Capital is a highly regulated industry and we need to ensure that first and foremost we are doing things in a compliant manner. It is difficult to enforce contracts and rules when we have foreign individuals involved and adds to the regulatory burden on our end.
What if I don't have a resume?
You can make one. You will need a resume whenever you apply to a job down the road or applying for college. There are plenty of online resources available to help make your resume. Ideally, your resume should not exceed one (1) page.
Are there any application tips that you can provide?
The short answer is No, and we would appreciate that you and/or your parents do not reach out to us on social media asking for tips. There are a decent amount of resources available online via our website and social media that makes it fairly easy to figure out the application process. Please do not ask former interns about this process as it varies yearly.
Why don't more VCs offer this program?
The short answer is the cost of Compliance. It is an extremely costly endeavor from both a human capital and financial capital perspective to run a compliant program for high school students. It isn’t a risk from a time capacity or financial capacity that many firms want to undertake.
What is a typical day like?
It’s a replication of the type of lifestyle you would expect to have in venture capital full-time as an Analyst. It can vary greatly, depending on deal flow, compliance to-dos, travel, conferences, etc. No two days are generally the same.
What is the office culture like?
It’s a very lean team with a relatively flat structure. Everyone is willing to coach, mentor, and provide guidance. We are all highly approachable and eager to help.
What skills are most important as a Venture Analyst?
Communication and public speaking are incredibly important in venture capital. As a Venture Analyst, you will be utilizing your analytical, critical thinking, and research & writing skills almost daily.
Does our current location play a role in admissions?
In theory, no. However, you are required to be in New Jersey during the Summer. Also, we cannot accept anyone that’s not US-based, here on an F-1 student visa, or would require sponsorship.
